Food Service Worker Training Program

The ACI Food Service Worker Training Program provides an opportunity to explore numerous food service occupations.
Along with in class instruction, participants receive experiential opportunities such as tours of food service establishments, guest speakers with professional experience in the field, and hands on activities in food service environments. Participants also get the opportunity to learn about and practice important employment skills such as teamwork, conflict resolution, problem solving, and working with a supervisor Participants learn to complete a job application, practice a job interview, and create a resume.
FOOD HANDLING CERTIFICATE TRAINING PROGRAM
Participants earn the National Restaurant Association Food Handler Certification through in class instruction, specific activities created to support the concepts included in the curriculum, tutoring, and practice testing to ensure success. There has been a 90% success rate for this program.
ACI COMMUNITY MARKET
Participants receive the opportunity to sample grocery store/retail tasks such as stocking, cashiering, customer service, cleaning and maintenance and organizing in a real market.
ACI CAFÉ
ACI has received health department approval to operate a sandwich/snack shop in our expanded commercial kitchen. Participants get the opportunity to experience all aspects of restaurant employment including menu development, food preparation, customer service, taking orders, cleaning and restocking tasks.

National Restaurant Association Food Handler Certification
Specific knowledge of skills and abilities for preferred food service occupations
Awareness of, and experience with, techniques to be successful in employment
A professional resume
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Age 18 or older
A disability diagnosis
Reliable transportation to and from the ACI office in Edison
Use of a functional communication system
Independent in personal self-care
Demonstrates a clear desire to work in a food service-related occupation
Can commit to full participation and attendance to a 28-week program
Demonstrates the ability to regulate his/her/their behavior with minimal directions within public settings
TUITION/FUNDING
ACI is an approved Direct Support Provider for DDD Career Planning and Pre-Vocational Services
This program is also an approved Eligible Training Provider through NJ DVRS
Private tuition is also accepted
