Emergency Preparedness
ACI is committed to providing assistance to people with disabilities during disaster emergencies. Through our Facebook page, ACI connects individuals to local, county and state resources. ACI also works with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to bring federal assistance to those with disabilities.
ACI has received grants from AmeriCares and PSEG to distribute emergency supplies, including emergency kits, first aid kits, adult briefs and wheelchairs, among other items. ACI also conducts training, overnight shelter simulations, and workshops on emergency preparedness to help individuals with disabilities and organizations that assist persons with disabilities be better prepared and successfully respond to disaster emergencies.
ACI staff is certified by the Northeast ADA Center at Cornell University to provide training on disability sensitivity and awareness and accessibility requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to organizations so they can better serve their customers (and accommodate employees) with disabilities.
