Job Title
Housing Program Assistant

Description
The Alliance Center for Independence (ACI) is currently seeking a part time assistant for its housing program. Under the supervision of the Housing Coordinator, the Housing Program Assistant will work one day a week (7 hours), with additional hours as needed. Salary is is $15 per hour, plus $.31 per mile travel.

Responsibilities
Duties included, but not limited to: Surveying newly constructed apartment buildings for accessibility, as per the federal Fair Housing Act and NJ Barrier Free Sub-code, and researching and providing information on housing for low income individuals with disabilities.

Knowledge/Skill
The ideal candidate must possess solid communication skills (both written and oral), computer skills, have reliable transportation (travel throughout NJ required), possess a willingness to learn and is reliable. Preference given to individuals with disabilities, including those with physical disabilities.

Job Title
Transportation Assessment Interviewer

Responsibilities

  1. Assist customers with participating in the NJ TRANSIT’s paratransit eligibility process by assisting them with providing appropriate information and relevant answers to questions asked within the Transportation Assessment.
  2. Educate customers about the accessible services that are available on NJT’s bus, rail and light rail systems.
  3. Provide NJT with a copy of documents and reports used to verify the identity of the customer, parent and/or guardian and his or her disability.
  4. Email the original Transportation Assessment and the copies of the documents to NJT within one (1) business day after the interview.
  5. Notify NJT if a customer attending a Transportation Assessment interview is employed, receives services or is in any way affiliated with your agency.
  6. Communicate with NJT about day of service issues including customers who are more than 10 minutes late for their assessment interview or who do not show up for scheduled appointments.
  7. Provide follow-up information about the assessment interview, as requested by NJT.
  8. Facilitate the use of the language line, during the Transportation Assessment interview, for non-English speaking customers.

Knowledge/Skill
Degree from a US Department of Education accredited college or university preferred. One (1) or more years of experience, working with people with disabilities required. Experience interviewing or evaluating customers for federal or state programs and services preferred. Strong verbal and writing skills and computer literacy in Microsoft Office Word/Excel required. Four years of closely related work experience can be substituted for degree. Ability to travel to locations within NJ not necessary accessible by public transportation.
