About Us: The Alliance Center for Independence (ACI) is a Center for Independent Living and a DVRS vendor and a DDD approved Fee-For-Service agency in Edison, NJ. ACI provides support services in Middlesex, Union and Somerset counties. ACI supports the philosophy of independent living for all persons with disabilities.
We are currently seeking a pre-employment instructor. This person will be primarily responsible for working with high school students with disabilities to provide pre-employment instruction, as well as support in applying for jobs/college. Instruction is individualized as well as group-based, and takes place at our center in Edison, and at high schools throughout Middlesex, Somerset, and Union counties.
This person will also be responsible for working with adults with disabilities, and should be enthusiastic about assisting people with developmental and intellectual disabilities in being independent and reaching their employment and independent living goals. Our approved support services include career planning, community based supports, community inclusion, pre-vocational training, and supported employment.
Responsibilities of the job include:
Developing pre-employment based lesson plans
Teaching lessons rooted in hands-on learning experiences
Working one-on-one and in small groups with adults and high school students
Writing monthly reports and communicating with support coordinators, school staff, ACI staff, and family/caregivers
Networking and creating partnerships between ACI and local organizations/businesses
Required Certifications/Qualifications:
Enthusiastic, flexible, and hard-working with a good sense of humor
Excellent documentation, organization, and writing skills
Independent minded, but also comfortable working with a team
Strong verbal communication skills -- able to teach and explain new concepts and information
Experience working with individuals with disabilities -- experience working with high school students a plus.
College degree preferred, but will consider someone with appropriate experience
Minimum of 21 years of age
Able to complete DDD-mandated staff training & professional development within 90 days of hire
Able to complete CPR and first-aid certifications
