About ACI: The Alliance Center for Independence (ACI) is a Center for Independent Living and a DDD/DVRS approved provider in Edison, NJ. ACI provides services for individuals with disabilities in Middlesex, Somerset, and Union counties. ACI supports the philosophy of independent living for all persons with disabilities.
We are currently seeking an instructor who is enthusiastic about assisting people, including students with disabilities, in being independent and reaching their employment and independent living goals.
Under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), this position will provide extensive pre-employment transition services for high school students with disabilities.
Responsibilities: Developing and implementing group/individualized pre-employment-based lesson plans, writing reports, communicating with support coordinators, school staff, ACI staff, local businesses and family/caregivers. You will be working primarily with high-school age students in a classroom setting, as well as at ACI. You will also be responsible for community outreach and building connections with local employers to create job sampling/internship opportunities for these students.
Required Certifications/Qualifications:
Enthusiastic, creative, flexible, and hard-working with a good sense of humor
Excellent documentation, organization, and writing skills
Experience with using Google Drive
Must be able to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines
Independent minded, but also comfortable working with a team
Other duties as assigned including one on one instruction
Strong verbal communication skills -- able to teach and explain new concepts and information in a classroom setting
Experience working with individuals with disabilities
College degree preferred, but will consider someone with appropriate experience
Traveling is required in Middlesex, Somerset and Union counties
Candidates will be subject to drug testing as well as a background/fingerprint check
Minimum of 21 years of age
Successfully complete DDD-mandated staff training & professional development training
Able to complete CPR and first-aid certifications
