Thank you to Middlesex County’s Plays in the Park staff, actors, musicians, and crew for a wonderful evening! Eighteen participants from ACI gathered at Roosevelt Park in Edison for a production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. The costumes and set design were beautiful to look at while the music and acting were top-notch. ACI participants and staff had a fun time hanging out under the sea with Ariel, Flounder, Sebastian and the rest of the gang!
On May 26th, the Rutgers Master Gardener Program introduced 13 ACI participants to a botanical experience that won’t soon be forgotten. Master gardeners, Jerri Barclay and Anne Ryder, shared their knowledge, enthusiasm, and love for gardening with all those in attendance. The presentation included learning about various types of plants and herbs. The presenters provided a variety of hands-on experiences like examining seeds, planting a personal herb garden, and seeing how to make a single spider plant into multiple plants. Thanks to Ms. Ryder and Ms. Barclay’s hard work, there are a few more green thumbs at ACI.
The games are over, the boards are put away, but fun was had by all at our recent Board Game Night! Participants taught each other different card games and learned about each other along the way. The mix of answers and laughter from the Taboo table filled the room, accented by the call of UNO and the crash of Jenga blocks hitting the table. The Checkmate Chess Club is back by consumer demand! On March 22nd, veteran members got together for an afternoon of laughter and strategy. The Checkmate Chess Club invites any experienced chess player to come and join in on the second to last Tuesday of every month. Players have the opportunity to hone their skills in a friendly environment. On March 17th, ACI was decked out in green and had a blast celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. We screened the academy award nominated film, The Secret of Kells. Then we enjoyed a spirited round of Irish related trivia. Guests competed in a shamrock scavenger hunt and two lucky winners went home with stylish new St. Patrick’s Day hats.
