On the evening of Oct 27th, the ACI family had a fun night of laughs and screams at the Spooktober: Halloween Throwback Party! Attendees participated in a candy corn scavenger hunt, a game of Halloween themed “Who Am I”, and a classic vampire costume contest. The night’s main event was a viewing of the 1931 classic Dracula staring Bela Lugosi. Happy Halloween Everyone!
Guided Painting Workshop at Make Me Take Me Art Studio
On the evening of August 30th, friends of ACI came together for a night of fun and creativity at the Make Me Take Me Studio in Highland Park. 24 people participated in a guided painting exercise led by gifted painters and the owners of the studio, Dr. and Mrs. Yang. Dr. Yang walked the participants step by step from blank canvas to a beautiful painting of the aurora borealis. While each attendee was following instructions, Dr. Yang encouraged freedom of expression, so each painting came out a bit differently. A huge thank you goes out to the staff of Make Me Take Me Studio for a wonderful experience!
Plays in the Park: West Side Story
On the evening of Wednesday, July 19th 2017, ACI attended Plays in the Park to see their production of West Side Story. All that attended enjoyed some aspect of the evening, whether it was the music, singing, dancing or just a night out with friends and good conversation. If you haven’t experienced a Plays in the Park production yet, put it on your list of things to do during the summer!
Somerset Patriots Baseball Game 2017
On the evening of June 15th, ACI had a blast at the Somerset Patriots game against the Long Island Ducks. Although the Patriots suffered a 3 to 1 loss, the ACI participants had fun cheering on their favorite team. The Patriots were celebrating their 20th season by giving away commemorative baseball hats, each participant went home with one. Even Sparkee and Slider, the Patriots mascots, came to say hello in the 7th inning.
Write On! Creative Writing Workshop
On May 22nd, friends of ACI gathered at the PeopleCare Center for Nonprofits in Bridgewater to share their creative writing endeavors. Poets, Short Story writers, Essayists, Novelists, and novice writers spent the evening sharing and giving feedback on their work. Participants took part in prompt writing exercises to practice spontaneous writing. Discussions spanned from writing styles, reasons people write, important writing topics, and issues related to sharing your work with the public. Thank you to all that attended for making it a fantastic evening and big thank you to PeopleCare Center for Nonprofits for opening your doors to our group!
Jigsaw Puzzle Night!
On the evening of March 23rd, friends of ACI gathered at the Mountainside Public Library for a fun night of listening to music and flexing their mental muscles putting together puzzles. Conversation ranged from the best way to put a puzzle together, different things people like to do in their free time, and favorite music acts. Thank you to the staff of Mountainside Public Library for their hospitality.
A Night of Bowling with ACI!
On the evening of February 24th, friends of ACI went to Stelton Lanes in Piscataway for a night of bowling! Both experienced bowlers and novices had a ball doing their best to knock down their pins. ACI regulars welcomed newcomers to the event and the ACI family. It was a great night were sportsmanship and friendship went hand in hand!
