On May 15th, 2014, ACI hosted a presentation conducted by Sgt. Dudash from the Edison Police Department about Crime Prevention and Safety Tips for People with Disabilities. Topics discussed included: home safety, scams, personal safety, keeping safe while using public transportation and internet safety. Thank you Sgt. Dudash for a very useful workshop.
Men's Health Workshop
ACI's Men's Peer Group hosted a workshop on Men's Health on Thursday, May 15th. Stephanie Rodriquez, Health Educator from Amerigroup was the presenter. Her entertaining and informative presentation focused on ways to reduce the risk of heart disease, establishing a healthy diet, and conducting a self exam for testicular cancer. Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar Screenings
ACI hosted blood pressure and blood sugar screenings conducted by Saint Peter's University Hospital's Community Mobile Health Services. 12 individuals participated in the event. Thank you to Tara Gunthner and her staff for conducting the screenings.
Create Your Vision Board
The first series of the Vision Board Workshop was a huge success! Over the course of several weeks, participants picked their vision and put it into words and pictures which were then used to create their boards. The finished Vision Boards will help them as a visual reminder of the goals they set.
ACI Speaks to Kean University Interior Design Class
On March 21st, Luke Koppisch and ACI volunteer, Courtney Cardona, spoke to a class of 35 interior design students at Kean University in Union, NJ. Courtney spoke about designing buildings and homes for people with visual impairments. This was the second year in a row that ACI was asked to present to Professor Linda O'Shea's class.
