About 30 people, including students from North Brunswick Township High School, participated in Everyday Technologies, a workshop devoted to using tablets and smartphones to make life easier. World Renowned Origami Artists Hold Workshop at ACI
ACI welcomed internationally known origami instructors, Laura “Lauragami” Kruskal and Karen Reeds, for a night of folding fun! Participants followed Laura and Karen’s lead in making an origami dinner place holder, a letter folded into its own envelope, and a crown with the phrase “Love, Peace, Disability Pride” on it. The night was enhanced with Laura’s stories of her life traveling and teaching origami as well as a lively sing-a-long of the “International Origami Anthem” accompanied by Laura playing the harmonica.

ACI Remembers the September 11th Attacks
ACI Remembers 9-11. ACI paid tribute to those who were lost during the events of Sept. 11, 2001, including Colleen Fraser, disability advocate and a passenger of Flight 93. Participants recalled the day 15 years ago and the effect it had on the nation. The work of Colleen Fraser was also remembered.
Make Your Community Accessible with NJ's Barrier Free Subcode
Thank you to Emily Templeton of the NJ Dept. of Community Affairs and Edward Haas of the NJ Division on Civil Rights for their informative workshop on NJ's Barrier Free Subcode and the NJ's Law Against Discrimination. The workshop, entitled Making Your Community Accessible, is another of a series of workshops on disability rights and the law.
ACI's Independent Living Skills Group Learns How to Do Laundry
Participants in our Independent Living Skills program learned how to do laundry at a local laundromat. The class took place on Friday, June 3rd at the Fords Cleaners in Fords, NJ and was taught by Eulanda Brooks, ACI Independent Living Specialist. Nice job everyone!
Saint Peter's University Hospital Brings Sun Damage Awareness to ACI
Thank you to Saint Peter's University Hospital Community Mobile Health Program for presenting a workshop on sun damage prevention on Tuesday, June 7th. Staff from the hospital also conducted free skin damage screenings on participants using a DermaScan machine.
