A Matter of Balance

Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels.

This program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls.

You will learn to:

  • View falls as controllable

  • Set goals for increasing activity

  • Make changes to reduce fall risks at home

  • Exercise to increase strength and balance

Who should attend?

  • Anyone concerned about falls

  • Anyone interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength

  • Anyone who has fallen in the past

  • Anyone who has restricted activities because of falling concerns

Free home safety checks for all participants!!!

Living My Best Life

We are thrilled to announce that ACI's Living My Best Life (LMBL) workshop series is back and better than ever! The new and improved curriculum-based program is now accepting applications for the upcoming group starting on March 4th.

If you or a loved one is a disabled adult between the ages of 21 and 35, and wanting to learn the skills and resources to live independently, then this program may be perfect for you!

This 18 session program, covers a wide range of essential life skills, including Problem Solving, Safety at Home, and Financial Literacy, to name a few. Our program is limited to only 6 participants per class, ensuring an individualized and effective learning experience.

Applications are due by February 12th.

Applications will be reviewed by a panel and 6 participants will be selected, so don't wait to apply!

The cost for LMBL is $2500. Please see application for payment options.

Women's Peer Support Group

Join us for our next meeting of our NEW monthly Women’s Peer Support Group on the first Thursday of every month at ACI!

Facilitated by Tia Washington, ACI Employment Specialist, our Women's Peer Support Group gives ladies the opportunity to interact with their peers, ask questions, and further seek information for areas in their lives they would like to improve and/or learn about. The purpose of the group is to provide a place where they feel they can fit in, express themselves, and feel safe.

Topics include social skills, making friends, hygiene, cooking, and other living skills.

Light refreshments will be served.

This group is for women with disabilities.

Talk and Walk Peer Group

Join your friends at ACI for our Talk and Walk Peer Group! We will be holding these peer group meetings during a leisurely walk on the accessible Greenway Path, located 2 blocks from our office. This is an opportunity to get out of our Zoom boxes and enjoy the outdoors while learning, laughing and sharing!

Please bring water/drink and wear sneakers/comfortable shoes and comfortable warm temperature clothing. Feel free to bring your own sunscreen and/or hat.

Limited to 8 participants.

Middlesex and Union Core Advisory Groups (CAG) have joined forces!

Are you a disabled and a resident of Middlesex or Union County? Are you concerned about disasters and recovery?

A disaster can happen at any time! This is a great opportunity to work together with emergency managers to make effective changes in how emergency services are provided to people with disabilities and access and functional needs in Middlesex and Union Counties.

Come and join our next hybrid CAG meeting on Survival Skills, presented by Eric Martin, Middlesex County C.E.R.T. Coordinator and Training and Operations. While this meeting will be offered on Zoom, we request that you try to come in person as part of the meeting will be taking place outside. We look forward to seeing you then!

The purpose of this group is to...

  • Promote inclusive emergency management by encouraging collaboration and partnership between community disability stakeholder and emergency managers.

  • Identify emergency management challenges facing people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs before, during and after a disaster.

  • Develop strategies to build resilience in the disability community.

The Middlesex County CAG was formed in 2015 and was the first CAG in New Jersey.

ACI is currently accepting new participants for our Community Living Skills program. This 10 session program is designed to teach people with disabilities independent living skills.

Topics will include:

  • Disability Identity

  • Self-Advocacy

  • Self-Care

  • Housing

  • Budgeting and Finance

  • Healthy Relationships

  • Transportation

  • Time Management

When like-minded people come together to share their thoughts, concerns and experiences, there is a sense of community. ACI is inviting parents and loved ones of adults with disabilities (ages 18+) to join us on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 5:30 to 7:30 PM.

Light snacks and refreshments will be served.

Feel free to bring something to share!

Registration is required. Limited to 18 participants. Masks are optional.
